Aquarius, Kleber Mendonça Filho (drama, 2016) (145 min.)
May 4, at 3:00 pm
Clara, a 65-year-old widow, retired music critic, was born into a wealthy and traditional family in Recife, Brazil. She is the last resident of Aquarius, an original building, built in the 1940s on the upper-class, seaside Avenida Boa Viagem, Recife. All the neighbouring apartments have already been acquired by a company that plans to develop a new housing project. Clara has sworn only to leave her home when she dies and engages in a cold war with the developer, in a dark, frightening and emotionally exhausting confrontation. This tension not only disturbs Clara but makes her daily life exasperating, leading her to reflect upon herself and her loved ones, her past and her future.
