Conversations with Artists and Curators | Listening to the waters
Seminars & debates
With Carla Rebelo, Leonor Nazaré, Maria João Gamito e Manuel Valente Alves
Artists, essayists and curators, debate informally or in 'round table' format what temporary exhibitions they propose for the Money Museum. The brainstorm deepens the interpretation of the artists' works and careers, and links contemporary art's contexts and practices with the present and the themes approached by the authors.
Watermark by Carla Rebelo
Temporary exhibition
From 13th of July until 7th of October
Suspended at the altar, multiple threads sketch memories over what we see. Superimposed like watermarks, the lines contour a kind of ballast of time refusing to pass. Carla Rebelo intertwines these textile drawings, creating an irregular sculpture, arising from the restored church's incomplete form or from fragments from elsewhere.
Rock, dust, bone, light are the threads the artist uses to weave a fabric of historical notes and common stories in this installation with an almost ethereal texture, that evokes the shape of a vault (formerly beneath the altar), of a plan or of the map drawings for a city diluted by water. Under the brightness of the Baroque architecture, the artist highlights the transitory nature of this place.
