DERIVAR – Performing Walk
Theater & dance

We will wander through the Pombaline Baixa on a zigzagged route between Banco de Portugal’s head office and the former Passeio Público.
An artistic walk is never not a walk, but it takes us further. On this one, specifically, we wander through the Pombaline Baixa on a zigzagged route between Banco de Portugal’s head office and the former Passeio Público. As flâneurs, or strollers, we depart from Guy Debord’s concept of ‘dérive’, or drift, searching for new physical and political spaces in the city, spaces that reveal themselves as we stroll – more or less disinterestedly! The body is the indispensable methodological tool for this walk, as one of the concepts of the project is to connect the body to the terrain through the act of walking. Artistic provocations appear along the walk that not only aim to destabilise the notions of spectator and performer, but also produce temporary sharing communities among the strollers. Each step, each discovery is a homage to the Lisbon that remains.
