New Business Models: The case of Lisbon
Conferences
Is Lisbon an exemplary case when it comes to commercial innovation?
'Cities are the daughters of commerce and their main reason for being', said Henry Pirenne in 1939.
The combination city/trade takes on different forms throughout the ages: the covered markets of the 18th century, the elegant shopping arcades of the 18th century, and the colossal shopping malls of the end of the 20th century are some examples of how commercial space has been transformed and experienced.
More recently, we have seen the rise of a wide range of new (or old but revisited) commercial models that represent alternative poles of urban experience.
