Other Ways of Seeing - Performance-tour
Theater & dance
Other Ways of Seeing seeks to create a new relationship between the public and works of art, where visitors are challenged to look differently at the many images in the “(Euro) policies: contemporary photography since 1999” exhibition.
Other Ways of Seeing is a performance for museums and galleries that honours the English art critic John Berger. In exhibitions of visual art the body of the visitor is often forgotten, either because of the layout of the works or the tradition of how we should read the images exhibited. But how should we look at an exhibition? Is there only one way? How can we activate our sight and consequently our body to access an image? In his book Ways of Seeing (1972), Berger teaches the reader to observe images in their context, revealing the importance of the various elements that constitute them. Other Ways of Seeing seeks to create a new relationship between the public and works of art. By activating the body in the exhibition space and with the help of a manual, visitors are challenged to look differently at the many images in the “(Euro) policies: contemporary photography since 1999” exhibition.
