By Diogo Varela Silva | 2024 | Portugal | 52 min. | M/12
Documentary
The documentary The Shrovetide Devil portrays the Entrudo of Lazarim, one of the most authentic carnival celebrations in Portugal, highlighting the caretos, their costumes, and issues related to gender. With an original soundtrack by Iúri Oliveira — known for his collaborations with Madonna and The Cinematic Orchestra — the film blends tradition and contemporaneity through a unique rhythmic language. In 2023, the musician released the album Manifesto, which follows the same sonic approach.
The film was awarded the Gold Award at the Florence Film Awards (Italy) and received an Honorable Mention at the Rhodope International Documentary Film Festival (Bulgaria), among other prizes.
This is a unique opportunity to hear the film’s soundtrack performed live by one of the most extraordinary Portuguese percussionists.
