Whoever tells a story…
Theater & dance
A verbal narrative is part of our heritage and helps us understand where we come from and how we lived in other times.
Popular folklore is made up of everyday stories, of collective wisdom, of the unique creativity of whoever tells and retells them. This could be why gold and money are so present in these stories that travel by word-of-mouth and mould the way we behave in society, create prejudices and myths, but also show us the hardships of life, beliefs, human virtues and morals, resilience and the way to overcome the most improbable challenges.
To commemorate notable dates and Museum Day we are going to give a voice to these Portuguese stories that recount tales of households’ economies, show the purpose of money, what emotions gold generates and if mammon can also create value. We have invited professional storytellers to research and interpret these narratives in the Museum throughout the day.
Storytellers: António Fontinha, Miguel Horta, Ana Sofia Paiva
