Money Museum is awarded 'Integrated Accessibility' by Acesso Cultura
The Money Museum has won the 2017 Integrated Accessibility Award from Acesso Cultura.
The Money Museum won in the 'Integrated Accessibility' category, which involves all three areas covered by this association: physical, social and intellectual accessibility.
The award jury deemed that the Money Museum deserved this award for being "a project that from its inception has made a major commitment to accessibility in its curating and relations with the general public, incorporating it in an integrated and inclusive way. Thus, taking a holistic and complete approach to its day-to-day working practice, the award-winner commits to its visitors by taking steps to promote integrated accessibility."
The Acesso Cultura Awards were presented at a ceremony on 21 June in the Library of Marvila in Lisbon. This year saw the highest number of entrants since the awards first began in 2015.
Acesso Cultura gives these awards to recognise, publicise and promote entities (private or public, including cooperatives, associations and others) and projects that stand apart for their exemplary policies and good practice in promoting improvements in conditions – physical, social and intellectual – in accessing cultural spaces and the cultural offering in Portugal. It also aims to make the public more demanding, with a view to improving accessibility as a whole.
The Money Museum was inaugurated in April 2016, and has already been a finalist in the European Museum Forum's 'European Museum of the Year Award 2017' and won 'Best Museum 2017' from the Portuguese Museology Association (Associação Portuguesa de Museologia - APOM).
